An alternative to in-ground burial of cremated remains is inurnment in a niche. Several community columbariums in Calvary Cemetery provide single and double niches to families in an outdoor setting. As it is in the case of graves and crypts, when a niche is sold, ownership of the niche remains with the Catholic Cemeteries. The purchaser, through the Inurnment Rights Agreement, is only given an exclusive and permanent right of use of the niche for the inurnment of human remains. The niche fronts are also owned by the Catholic Cemeteries and the families only have the right to inscribe the name of the deceased and the years of birth and death.
